The Black Isle Brewery Summer Shindig

To celebrate the opening of the new brewery the Black Isle Brewery will be hosting a Summer Shindig on Saturday the 4th of June to celebrate .

Live music will come from the likes of Parma Violets, The Douglas Firs, Black Diamond Express, Homecoming String Band, Wax, Jack Rabbit’s Foot Minstrels, Abigail Grey which will ensure everyone will be dancing from dusk till dawn.

To celebrate Black Isle Brewery welcomes adults and children to the brewery and farm on the Black Isle for a day of fun country fare. The two acres of the farm and the 18th c. barn will provide the peaceful atmosphere to a festive weekend. Guests are invited to set up tents in one of the lush green fields only steps away from all the excitement. It is sure to be special communal event with a hog roast, live music, country camping, a farm shop and delicious organic beer.

Throughout the day guests can take a guided stroll around the farm to see the animals, learn how the celebrated beer is made on a brewery tour, and try for a prize by participating in a number of beer-themed games.

No need to bring any food, we’ll be roasting our farm reared pig and sheep and in the original 18th c dairy there will be a chance to buy fresh organic milk, eggs, baked goods, soup and sandwiches, and salads, all grown and produced on the farm complimented by flowing fresh organic beer.

The Summer Shindig will commence on Saturday, the 4^th of June at 10am and end on Sunday 5th June at noon. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 12:30. Guests are welcome to arrive and camp Friday night for an evening around the bonfire.

Admission is…..FREE But donations are welcome.

From the northern gales of the Highlands to the peaks of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, The Douglas Firs is the brainchild of Neil Insh, born and bred in Aberdeen before de-camping to Scotland’s capital. Daring, lively and tender, The Douglas Firs have recently been described as "Belle & Sebastian on a spirit-quest" (The List). To which Neil responded, "I would agree, but only if the 'spirit' was hard liquor, and Belle and Sebastian had some balls."

The Shadow Line is taken from the forthcoming album Happy as a Windless Flag - out onMonday 16th May via Armellodie Records - tackling the melee of giving in to growing old, articulately dissecting and mournfully celebrating the different ways of dealing with the maxim that life’s apropos is coming to terms with death, whilst making every effort to avoid cliche of expression.

Anyone who has ever tried to dig their way through avant-garde, post-rock, experimental or improvised music will know that it can at times be a little dry – The Douglas Firs themselves claim they would be verging on prog-rock if they could play their instruments, and didn’t like Buddy Holly so much – this record is the perfect remedy for hard worked ears, in the dark, on your headphones, for the best results!

the official release date for the douglas firs first album, "happy as a windless flag", is monday 9th may. it feels remarkable to be able to say this, as the album took so long to finish (largely due to technical difficulties/being broke).

i will post details of how to obtain the record all in good time (cd/tape/mp3).

i would like the first album out this year, but it is still held up indefinitely by mastering issues. i began recording the second album in september 2009, and have around 20 songs tentatively recorded already (incomplete of course).

i've resigned the first record to being a 'lost artifact', and it will get released one day. there's just no point in talking about it anymore, and no one cares. to exorcise it, what follows is the details for the record, as a way of thanks to those who helped make it possible. details will be posted on here when the record is available - this year, next year, whenever.

Lichens is the name of Robert A.A. Lowe's musical project, created for performance and recording solo and with collaborators.
Lowe was previously a member of 90 Day Men before beginning his solo project.[1] In live performances, Lichens commonly features looping wordless vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, and on some occasions, percussion. Lichens' first release was The Psychic Nature of Being, a three track album recorded as a one-time improvisation without overdubbing. In 2007, Lichens released Omns, which was intended to be a continuation of the The Psychic Nature of Being using slightly different techniques in recording and editing.[2]
In 2008, Lichens toured extensively opening for instrumental post-rock band Explosions in the Sky, gaining an increasing fanbase and playing at their curated All Tomorrow's Parties music festival.

the first record has taken at least a year and a half more than it should've. fortunately, luckily, incredibly, thanks to my friend sandy i should manage to get it finished before the end of the month. two tracks more to master and we're through. it will be available to buy here.
